The Washington Commanders are set to welcome a notable attendee this Sunday as they face off against the Detroit Lions. President Trump has confirmed his presence for the Week 10 matchup.

Mr. Trump will partake in the NFL’s “Salute to Service” weekend, an event dedicated to honoring both current and former military personnel, coinciding with Veterans Day on Tuesday.

“We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we celebrate those who have served and continue to serve our country,” stated Mark Clouse, President of the Commanders. “The entire Commanders organization is proud to participate in the NFL’s league-wide Salute to Service initiative, recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active-duty service members, and their families this Sunday.”

However, it should be noted that military members will not engage in any official capacity during the events. Pentagon officials have restricted Department of Defense personnel from participating in outreach activities due to the ongoing government shutdown, according to various reports.

Mr. Trump is no stranger to NFL events; he previously owned the New Jersey Generals of the USFL during its 1980s heyday. The New York native has also expressed interest in acquiring the Buffalo Bills after former owner Ralph Wilson’s passing in 2014.

This past February, Mr. Trump made history by becoming the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl when he witnessed the Philadelphia Eagles triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.
