Nine Major League Baseball Teams Cancel Agreements
Nine Major League Baseball teams have decided to terminate their contracts with the regional sports carrier, FanDuel Sports Network.
The teams affected include the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Rays. These cancellations were reported by sources familiar with the situation.
Before these cancellations took place, Main Street Sports Group, the parent company of FanDuel Sports Network, failed to make payments owed to several teams including the Cardinals and Marlins. Reports indicate that other franchises also experienced missed payments under their contracts.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred reassured fans through a statement to the Associated Press that regardless of the circumstances surrounding Main Street or any third-party media outlets, fans will still have access to games.
The nine teams now have the option to be broadcast directly by Major League Baseball. Last season, several teams including the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians opted for league-distributed broadcasts. The Seattle Mariners are set to join this list for the upcoming season.
Manfred emphasized that clubs are currently evaluating their options in light of these changes. He stated that maximizing revenue is a priority for them as they consider moving to MLB Media due to their current contractual situations.
Main Street Sports Group remains a potential option for these nine teams as they navigate their broadcasting decisions.
Sources indicated that new offers from Main Street Sports Group are expected soon in an effort to retain these teams within the FanDuel Sports Network framework while making it more appealing for a potential sale.
Main Street has faced financial difficulties over recent years. Previously known as Diamond Sports Group and operating under the Bally Sports brand before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2023, it rebranded as FanDuel Sports Network in 2024 after emerging from bankruptcy in January 2025.
