Belichick’s Focus Remains on UNC
Bill Belichick, the head coach at the University of North Carolina, has made it clear that he is not seeking a return to the NFL.
On social media Friday, Belichick addressed speculation regarding the head coaching position with the New York Giants, who recently parted ways with coach Brian Daboll.
“I have great respect and genuinely care for the New York Giants organization and both the Mara and Tisch families. The New York Giants played an important role in my life and in my coaching journey. … However, despite circulating rumors, I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies,” Belichick stated.
Belichick served as an assistant coach for the Giants from 1979 to 1990, contributing to their two Super Bowl victories.
According to unnamed sources cited by NFL insider Dianna Russini, there has been no communication between Belichick and the Giants regarding their vacant position.
In his statement, Belichick emphasized his dedication: “Since arriving in Chapel Hill, my commitment to the UNC Football program has not wavered. We have tremendous support from the university, our alumni, and the entire Carolina community. My focus remains solely on continuing to improve this team, develop our players, and build a program that makes Tar Heel fans proud. We’re on to Wake Forest.”
This season marks Belichick’s first at UNC after a long tenure with the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2023, where he led them to six NFL championships alongside quarterback Tom Brady.
The Tar Heels currently hold a record of 4-5 as they prepare to face in-state rival Wake Forest (6-3) this Saturday afternoon.
