Tragic Accident at the Grand Canyon
A 65-year-old man lost his life earlier this week after slipping off the edge of the Grand Canyon, located on the Hualapai Reservation in Arizona. The incident occurred when he fell over 100 feet onto a pile of rock shards.
The fall took place in the western section of the Grand Canyon before 2 p.m. local time on Thursday, as reported by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have not disclosed the man’s identity or any potential contributing factors that led to his fatal slip.
Search and Rescue teams from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office discovered him approximately 130 feet down on a scree pile, which consists of naturally occurring fragments of fallen rocks.
The sheriff’s office, along with personnel from Grand Canyon and Hualapai tribal police and fire departments, utilized a rope system to recover his body.
“Our condolences are with his family. Please respect their privacy during this time,” stated the sheriff’s office.
