Incident at Washington Dulles International Airport

A mobile lounge transporting passengers between terminals at Washington Dulles International Airport collided with a United Airlines luggage cart on Wednesday, resulting in injuries to a United employee.

The accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. when the bus-like vehicle struck the luggage cart.

James Johnson, a spokesperson for Dulles Airport, informed Loudoun Now that the shuttle has been taken out of service for inspection while passengers were transferred to another shuttle to continue their journey to the concourse.

Both airline and airport officials are currently investigating the incident.

This is not the first occurrence involving mobile lounges; on November 10, one crashed into a concourse while carrying passengers, leading to 18 individuals being hospitalized according to WRC-TV.

Mobile lounges have been in operation at Dulles since its inception in 1962. Last year, the airport announced an investment of approximately $160 million aimed at refurbishing these shuttles for continued use over the next two decades, as reported by WJLA-TV.
