Celebrations Erupt in South Florida

Venezuelans residing in the United States took to the streets to express their joy following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro during a military operation in Caracas.

This intervention is seen as part of a long-anticipated effort by the Trump administration to remove Maduro, amid increasing military pressure over recent months.

As dawn broke on the East Coast, jubilant crowds gathered in Doral, a community known for its Venezuelan population in South Florida.

Hundreds waved flags, danced, and embraced one another while a drummer joined in with the singing crowd. Chants of “Liberty!” filled the air.

The Latin American nation has faced severe economic decline, international isolation, and political oppression. Since 2014, nearly 8 million Venezuelans have fled due to these dire conditions.

For many, Maduro’s arrest signifies a long-awaited chance for liberation.

Rafael Pineyro, a Venezuelan American city councilman in Doral, expressed solidarity with his homeland and those striving for freedom and justice. He stated that after years of repression under Maduro’s regime, the Venezuelan people deserve accountability and a clear path toward freedom. He endorsed U.S. actions as necessary steps against tyranny and for regional stability.

Agustin Rodriguez, vice president of a Venezuelan cultural association, shared his thoughts with a Spanish TV station about concerns regarding U.S. military actions but acknowledged they might be essential for establishing political change and future governance.

Maria Corina Machado, an opposition leader from Venezuela, urged expatriates to prepare for mobilization efforts aimed at constructing “the new Venezuela.”

While celebrations occurred abroad, many residents in Caracas remained indoors amidst the news.

During a press conference on Saturday, President Trump stated that the U.S. would oversee governance until a new administration could be established.
