U.S. military action targets ISIS in Nigeria

On Christmas Day, the United States conducted airstrikes on Islamic State positions in Nigeria, as announced by President Trump on social media.

The president stated that these military actions were a response to the ongoing violence perpetrated by the Islamist group against Christian civilians in the region.

“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing primarily innocent Christians at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries!” he declared.

Trump emphasized that he had previously warned that the U.S. would not tolerate what some have described as genocide or ethnic cleansing.

“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” he added.

The president noted that while he did not provide specifics about the targets, he believed the strikes were successful.

He concluded his message with a characteristic flourish: “May God bless our military, and Merry Christmas to all, including the dead terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
