Trump’s Assertion of Support
During a press briefing at the White House on Tuesday, President Trump stated that every leader of the United Nations has nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize.
He expressed a desire for the U.N. to be more proactive, saying, “But the United Nations, you know, with all the wars I settled, the United Nations never helped me on one war.” He added that he had not sought their assistance but managed to bring together various presidents and prime ministers successfully.
According to recent betting lines, Trump is currently favored to win the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, surpassing notable figures such as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Pope Leo XIV. BetOnline lists his odds at 5/1.
The president has openly campaigned for this prestigious award, citing his achievements discussed during the press conference as justification for his nomination.
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado received last year’s Nobel Peace Prize and recently presented it to Trump. However, the Nobel Foundation clarified that prizes cannot be transferred to others, which led to criticism from Trump’s administration.
White House Deputy Secretary Anna Kelly remarked that the foundation seemed more interested in criticism than in recognizing Trump’s significant contributions toward peace. Communications Director Steven Cheung emphasized that they should highlight the president’s unprecedented accomplishments.
In a recent letter to Norway’s prime minister, Trump expressed feeling less obligated to focus solely on peace due to not receiving the prize: “Considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 wars PLUS… I can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” he wrote.
