Focus on Naval Advancements
President Trump has outlined a vision for more advanced vessels, smarter weaponry, and enhanced firepower, which will be key topics at the Surface Navy Association’s National Symposium taking place this week in Arlington, Virginia.
The symposium begins on Tuesday and is expected to attract around 90 vendors and over 4,000 participants. It aims to celebrate the legacy of America’s surface forces while preparing for future challenges, according to the Surface Navy Association.
Discussions will center on updates to Pentagon procurement strategies and the Navy’s collaboration with other military branches and international allies.
This event aligns with the Pentagon’s ongoing efforts to maintain a technological advantage over U.S. adversaries, particularly in the Pacific region.
A range of industry leaders, including major manufacturers like Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, and Leonardo DRS, are sponsoring the event.
Secretary of the Navy John Phelan is scheduled to speak on Tuesday. Other senior Navy officials will also address attendees throughout the three-day event regarding the current state of naval operations and strategies for building a modern naval force capable of projecting U.S. military power globally.
The extensive reach of U.S. naval forces has been highlighted recently through various global operations. For instance, recent strikes involving Tomahawk missiles against Islamic State targets in Nigeria were executed using naval assets.
The agenda includes discussions about Trump’s proposal for new “Trump class” battleships as part of a “Golden Fleet.” Mr. Phelan is anticipated to elaborate on this initiative during his keynote speech. Industry representatives are keenly interested as details about this program remain sparse.
“We haven’t built a battleship since 1993,” Trump stated last month when announcing this initiative. He emphasized that these new vessels would be among the most formidable surface warfare ships available today..
