Upcoming Meeting at the White House
President Trump has announced that he will meet with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House on Friday.
On social media, Mr. Trump stated, “Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting,” and promised to provide more details soon.
Mamdani recently won the mayoral election against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. He had previously expressed interest in meeting with the president.
During a press conference on Sunday, Mr. Trump indicated that he would “work something out” to invite Mr. Mamdani to Washington, emphasizing his desire for positive outcomes for New York.
The president has been vocal in his criticism of Mr. Mamdani, labeling him a self-described “democratic socialist” and previously endorsing Mr. Cuomo during the election campaign.
Mr. Trump controversially remarked that any Jewish voter supporting Mr. Mamdani would be a “stupid person” and threatened to limit federal funding to the city if Mamdani were elected.
Following his victory, Mr. Mamdani told NBC News that he intends to reach out to the White House as part of preparations for taking office, highlighting the importance of this relationship for the city’s future success.
