Trump’s Criticism of Ilhan Omar
During a press briefing on Tuesday, President Trump openly shared his negative views regarding Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota who is currently facing scrutiny due to a significant Medicaid fraud scandal in her state.
Omar has been a focal point of Trump’s criticism alongside Democratic Governor Tim Walz, particularly concerning the alleged $9 billion fraud linked to members of Minnesota’s Somali community.
In his remarks, Trump stated, “Ilhan Omar comes from Somalia, a backward country. Probably the worst country, they say.” He continued to describe Somalia as disorganized and lacking basic governmental structures.
The president bluntly declared, “I can’t stand her,” while also commenting on Omar’s reported net worth of $30 million despite claiming she has never held a job.
A total of 98 individuals in Minnesota have been charged with fraudulently acquiring federal funds intended for child care services. Nearly 90 of those charged are reportedly from Somalia.
Trump criticized both Walz and Omar for their management of the fraud case, suggesting that Omar should face severe consequences. Reports indicate that the House Oversight Committee is investigating her financial dealings.
Oversight Chair James Comer expressed skepticism about how Omar’s husband amassed significant wealth in such a short time frame, stating, “It’s not possible. I’m a money guy. It’s not possible.”
