Trump’s Public Breakup with Greene
President Trump is experiencing a very public fallout with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former ally and supporter of the MAGA movement. Their rift has widened as she distances herself from his administration regarding issues like the Epstein case, economic policies, and foreign relations.
Trump has labeled her a RINO, or Republican in name only, drawing comparisons to Kentucky Republicans Senator Rand Paul and Representative Thomas Massie, who frequently oppose him.
In a social media post on Saturday, he stated, “Lightweight Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Brown (Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT!), betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned Left…”
The president continued his criticism by referring to her as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green” and declared her a “disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!” These remarks followed his withdrawal of support for the Georgia Republican and his endorsement of potential challengers in her district.
In response to Trump’s comments, Greene defended her actions regarding a petition aimed at compelling the Justice Department to release files related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. She expressed surprise that advocating for victims would lead to such backlash.
She was one of four Republicans who signed this petition alongside Massie and Representatives Lauren Boebert and Nancy Mace.
The tension between Trump and Greene escalated during the summer when she criticized him for focusing too much on international matters instead of her “America Only” agenda. This split may have serious implications for her safety; Greene reported receiving warnings from private security firms due to threats against her that have been exacerbated by Trump’s rhetoric.
