Trump’s Focus on Tariffs and Crime Rates

As President Trump approaches the end of his first year back in office, he has emphasized his administration’s achievements regarding tariffs and crime rates.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed, “Crime in the United States is at its lowest levels on record,” attributing this success to what he described as the most effective Southern Border operation in history. He also noted that employment levels are higher than ever before, exclaiming, “MAGA!!!”

The president stated that tariffs are generating significant wealth and enhancing national security for the United States. He reported a 60% reduction in the trade deficit and highlighted an impressive GDP growth rate of 4.3%, asserting that inflation is nonexistent and that the U.S. is regaining respect globally.

Despite these claims, Trump’s aggressive tariff policies have faced scrutiny. The Supreme Court recently heard arguments regarding these tariffs, with a ruling not expected until 2026.

A recent NBC News poll indicated that 42% of voters view the economy negatively, reflecting widespread concerns about affordability among Americans.

The president has taken action against urban crime by deploying National Guard troops to cities such as Washington, Los Angeles, and Chicago. This move follows protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations aimed at curbing illegal immigration.

This week, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump overstepped his authority by attempting to federalize National Guard troops for deployment in Chicago. This decision could impact similar actions taken in other cities.

The court stated: “Thus, at least in this posture, the Government has not carried its burden to show that [the law] permits the President to federalize the Guard in the exercise of inherent authority to protect federal personnel and property in Illinois.”

Democratic leaders have criticized Trump’s military deployments within American cities. Senators Richard J. Durbin and Tammy Duckworth expressed their disapproval following the Supreme Court ruling, stating it was time for Trump’s administration to reconsider its approach.
