Trump’s Endorsement of Blakeman
Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Bruce Blakeman, the GOP Nassau County Executive, for the upcoming New York governor election. This announcement came just a day after Representative Elise Stefanik decided to suspend her campaign.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised Blakeman, stating, “Bruce is MAGA all the way and has been with me from the very beginning.” He highlighted Blakeman’s efforts as Nassau County Executive in collaborating with law enforcement agencies to enhance border security and maintain community safety.
Trump further emphasized that if elected governor, Blakeman would focus on economic growth, tax reduction, promoting American-made products, and strengthening military support. “He will protect our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump added.
Elise Stefanik announced her decision to suspend her gubernatorial campaign while also opting not to seek reelection for her House seat. She expressed gratitude for the support received during her campaign but acknowledged that continuing would not be a productive use of resources.
The race for governor poses significant challenges for Republicans. While both Trump and Blakeman have shared mutual respect, Trump’s endorsement marks a pivotal moment in the campaign. The last Republican governor of New York was George Pataki, who served from 1995 to 2006.
Kathy Hochul’s campaign communications director criticized Trump’s endorsement by suggesting that it prioritizes Trump’s interests over those of New Yorkers. They argued that Blakeman’s alignment with Trump could be detrimental in a state where Republican candidates face uphill battles.
