Trump’s Controversial Remarks
On Monday, former President Donald Trump claimed that what he termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome” contributed to the deaths of film director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.
While many Democrats honored Mr. Reiner for his artistic contributions and compassion, Trump chose to highlight the criticisms directed at him by the couple, who were found deceased in their Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his sorrow over the incident, describing Reiner as a once-great filmmaker whose legacy was overshadowed by his relentless criticism of Trump. He referred to this criticism as stemming from an “incurable affliction” he labeled as TDS.
Authorities are currently investigating what they describe as an “apparent homicide” at the couple’s home. Reports indicate that their son, Nick, has been arrested in connection with the case.
Rob Reiner gained fame for his role in the sitcom “All in the Family” before becoming a successful director known for classics like “This is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride,” and “When Harry Met Sally…” Trump’s comments contrasted sharply with tributes from prominent figures such as former President Barack Obama, who expressed heartbreak over the loss.
Obama praised Reiner’s contributions to film and television while highlighting his belief in humanity. Other notable figures like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and California Governor Gavin Newsom also shared their condolences and acknowledged Reiner’s impact beyond cinema.
