Strengthening U.S.-Saudi Ties
President Trump stated on Wednesday that the partnership between the United States and Saudi Arabia is one of the “most consequential in the entire world,” highlighting a $1 trillion investment in American projects. He positioned himself as the most Saudi-friendly president in recent history.
During a U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum held in Washington, Mr. Trump announced that $270 billion worth of agreements were already being signed among various companies.
The president attributed these developments to his strong relationship with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who received a warm welcome during his visit to Washington this week.
“Together, the crown prince and I are making an alliance stronger and more powerful than it’s ever been before,” Mr. Trump remarked at the forum, contrasting it with previous administrations.
Billionaire Elon Musk also spoke at the event, revealing that his AI project, xAI, is collaborating with Nvidia on a large-scale data center in Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to enhance the kingdom’s AI infrastructure as part of its economic diversification strategy beyond oil production.
The president emphasized his growing relationship with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, especially as nations compete for advanced computer chips from the company. “You have done such a good job,” Mr. Trump praised Huang during the summit.
Mr. Trump advocated for a federal standard for AI regulation to prevent states from over-regulating technology or focusing excessively on diversity and inclusion initiatives. He warned that without such standards, China could surpass the U.S. in AI development.
The longstanding relationship between Saudi Arabia and the U.S., which has spanned decades, is rooted in security and economic cooperation within the Gulf region. Mr. Trump noted that their ties were further strengthened by military actions against Iran.
“We took the dark cloud away from your country,” he said regarding military strikes aimed at Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The president announced that GE Aerospace will soon supply new airplane engines for Saudi Arabia’s commercial fleet of 787 Dreamliners, emphasizing how these investments contribute to job creation and strengthen America’s industrial base.
“Every new job and every new factory created by these announcements builds up our middle class,” he added.
Mr. Trump also addressed concerns raised by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about civil unrest in Sudan, indicating that he would take action regarding this issue as part of his broader efforts to resolve global conflicts.
