Trump’s Response to Affordability Critics

President Trump has pushed back against those criticizing his approach to affordability, attributing rising prices to his predecessor.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump questioned why Fox and Friends Weekend featured Peter Schiff, whom he described as a “Trump-hating loser” who has been proven wrong in the past. He expressed concern that the show might be shifting its focus.

Trump asserted that prices are decreasing, citing gasoline prices dropping to $1.99 per gallon in some states. He emphasized that many other prices are also falling, blaming Biden for what he termed an “affordability crisis.” He confidently stated, “I’m fixing it!” and mentioned improvements in areas like border security.

The term “affordability crisis” has become a focal point for Democrats in recent discussions. Trump criticized this narrative during his campaign, attributing inflation over the past four years to Biden’s policies.

This week, Trump expressed his frustration with Democrats’ use of the term “affordability,” calling it a meaningless phrase. He believes that tax cuts and deregulation will continue to bolster the economy.

The former president has highlighted declining egg prices and criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for not reducing interest rates to assist homebuyers. Trump is eager to replace Powell when his term ends in May.

During a Cabinet meeting, Trump indicated that an announcement regarding a new Fed chairman would likely come early next year.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently stated that Trump will prevail in addressing affordability issues by the 2026 midterm elections. Despite recent Democratic victories focusing on affordability, Bessent remains optimistic about future price stabilization and wage growth.
