Senate to Consider Hearings

The Senate is expected to conduct “Watergate-style hearings” aimed at investigating the Biden administration’s actions regarding President Trump and other Republicans following the 2020 election, according to Senator Eric Schmitt.

The Missouri Republican accused former special counsel Jack Smith of attempting to “weaponize” the federal justice system in an effort to imprison Mr. Trump before the upcoming 2024 election. Schmitt indicated that Smith will likely be called as a witness during these hearings.

In an interview on “The Sitdown with Alex Swoyer” podcast, Schmitt labeled antifa activists protesting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as the “paramilitary arm of the left,” asserting they should be treated as a terrorist organization.

He stated, “They throw firecrackers out to lure ICE agents out and try to murder them and assault them. It’s not just some ideology; it’s an organization that’s a terrorist organization.”

Schmitt also urged Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who has become a significant judicial opponent for the Trump administration. He argued that until this matter is resolved, Judge Boasberg should be suspended from handling cases related to his renewed efforts concerning deportations of Venezuelan gang suspects.

‘Arctic Frost’

Schmitt, who was elected to the Senate in 2022 after serving as Missouri’s attorney general, has been involved in major legal and political conflicts recently. As attorney general, he led a lawsuit revealing close ties between federal authorities and social media platforms, which pressured tech companies to silence dissenting voices regarding both the 2020 election and government narratives about COVID-19.

This was later corroborated by disclosures following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter (now X) known as the Twitter files. Schmitt described these actions by the Biden administration as “Orwellian.”

A member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Schmitt anticipates that public hearings will be held to unveil how the Biden administration investigated Trump and initiated criminal prosecutions post-2020 election. This investigation was referred to as “Arctic Frost” and led by Smith, resulting in indictments against Trump over classified documents and attempts to overturn his electoral defeat.

Schmitt’s Perspective on Jack Smith

“This is a big deal,” said Schmitt. “Jack Smith aimed to create a nationwide show trial where individuals could face criminal charges for their political beliefs.” He expressed eagerness for Smith’s testimony but emphasized the need for comprehensive information beforehand.

The investigation revealed that Smith accessed phone records of sitting members of Congress without their knowledge, including Judge Boasberg, who now faces impeachment articles drawn up in the House over this decision.

Antifa’s Role in Immigration Policy Debate

Schmitt has positioned himself as a leading voice among Republicans advocating for stricter immigration policies while criticizing Democrats’ stance on border issues. He claimed that many Democratic leaders do not believe in maintaining borders, contributing to rising resistance against immigration enforcement.

The senator remarked: “This is dangerous because people have been radicalized.”
