Russia has intensified its assault on central Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals and damaging vital energy infrastructure. Analysts suggest that this strategy aims to create a humanitarian crisis as winter approaches.

Russian forces launched missiles and drones targeting energy facilities in Ukraine’s Poltava region. Volodymyr Kohut, acting head of the Poltava military administration, reported that direct hits caused fires and damage to technical equipment. While there were no immediate reports of casualties, disruptions to heating and water supply were noted.
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the recent attacks as evidence of Russia’s preference for escalating conflict rather than pursuing peace. He emphasized the need for continued pressure on Russia to seek a peaceful resolution.
Reports indicate that Russia deployed at least 241 attack drones and five ballistic missiles during these strikes. Ukrainian air force officials stated that 179 of these threats were neutralized through various defense measures.
Zelenskyy highlighted that emergency services are constantly responding to the aftermath of Russian bombardments affecting civilian areas. He pointed out that critical infrastructure supporting daily life remains a primary target for these attacks.
The recent wave of assaults saw over a dozen targets hit across Ukraine. British officials noted an increase in Russia’s deep strike campaign against energy platforms since September, with approximately 5,000 attack drones launched monthly. This reliance on mass-produced drones reflects Russia’s attritional approach to warfare while limiting respite for Ukrainian defenses.
