Calls for Action Following Shooting

Senator Tommy Tuberville has urged the government to impose a ban and deport Islamic immigrants in light of the recent shooting involving two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., allegedly perpetrated by an Afghan national.

In a post on X, Tuberville stated, “The Afghan terrorist who shot 2 National Guard heroes in D.C. was welcomed into this country with open arms by Joe Biden,” referring to the former president.

He further emphasized, “We must IMMEDIATELY BAN all ISLAM immigrants and DEPORT every single Islamist who is living among us just waiting to attack.”

This call to action follows an announcement from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services that it will indefinitely suspend immigration applications from Afghanistan. The agency cited the need for further review of security and vetting protocols.

The suspect has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29. A relative informed NBC News that Lakanwal had served in the Afghan army and collaborated with U.S. special forces during the war.

During the Biden administration, approximately 80,000 Afghans were evacuated in 2021 to protect them from potential retaliation by the Taliban.

Senator Jim Banks from Indiana also called for locating Afghans admitted under Biden’s administration. He remarked, “Joe Biden rushed tens of thousands of Afghans into our nation. Today, we faced horrible consequences for this.” Banks urged Secretary Kristi Noem to locate and vet all Afghans admitted through ‘Operation Allies Welcome.’

Vice President J.D. Vance expressed his previous criticisms of these policies in 2021 but noted he faced backlash at that time. He stated, “They shouldn’t have been in our country.”
