Ilhan Omar questions terrorism allegations
Representative Ilhan Omar has expressed skepticism regarding the assertion made by some right-wing commentators that a significant fraud case in Minnesota is connected to terrorism.
During her appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Omar stated on Sunday that she is “pretty confident” that the misappropriated funds were not directed towards extremist organizations. She argued that if such connections existed, they would have been revealed by prosecutors and the judicial system by now.
“If there was a linkage between the stolen money and terrorism, then it would reflect a failure on the part of the FBI and our court system for not uncovering it and charging those responsible,” said the Minnesota Democrat.
Omar emphasized that if any tax dollars were indeed proven to support terrorism abroad, it would be imperative to hold those accountable and ensure it does not happen again. Her remarks come amid ongoing political repercussions from a $1 billion fraud case, with critics questioning oversight while supporters caution against generalizations about the Somali community.
Approximately 80,000 Somalis reside in Minnesota.

In light of this scandal, President Trump has focused his criticism on Somalis in Minnesota. During a recent Cabinet meeting, he remarked that America is at a “tipping point” and warned against allowing what he termed “garbage” into the country.
The president also targeted Omar directly, labeling her as “garbage” along with her associates. He stated, “These aren’t people that work or contribute positively; they only complain.”
On Sunday, Omar responded to Trump’s comments by calling them “completely disgusting.” She pointed out that these are Americans he is disparaging and suggested there is an unhealthy fixation he has with both her and the Somali community.
“This kind of hateful rhetoric can lead to dangerous actions from those who listen to him,” she added.
