Two Arrested After Ramming Vehicles Into Federal Agents
In North Carolina, two individuals have been charged following an incident where they allegedly used their vehicles to ram into agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol during a recent immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte.
The first suspect, Miguel Angel Garcia Martinez, informed authorities that he was part of a private social media group aimed at tracking the locations of Border Patrol agents. On Sunday, he reportedly followed federal officers using his white sprinter van.
When agents attempted to confront him to advise against obstructing their duties, he fled the scene, weaving through traffic. At one point, he collided with a government Ford Expedition operated by ICE personnel, according to court documents.
Garcia Martinez continued to evade capture until law enforcement managed to box him in. Agents had to break his window to remove him from the vehicle.
The second individual was apprehended the following day. Cristobal Maltos was observed trailing federal agents in a Honda Civic.
Upon being confronted by law enforcement, Maltos attempted to escape but was eventually stopped at a roadblock. As officers approached his vehicle and instructed him to lower his window, he accelerated forward, striking an officer’s side mirror.
Officers then broke the window of Maltos’s car to extract him. He later expressed shock during questioning by FBI agents but did not acknowledge hitting the officer.
This incident occurred as Homeland Security launched its latest immigration enforcement initiative in Charlotte, dubbed Operation Charlotte’s Web. This operation has already led to the arrest of 130 undocumented immigrants within its first two days.
The department noted that Charlotte is classified as a sanctuary jurisdiction, which has attracted many illegal immigrants seeking refuge there.
