Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Claims

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated on Sunday that President Donald Trump severed political ties with her due to her advocacy for the release of the Epstein files.

“It has all come down to the Epstein files, and that is shocking,” said Greene, a Republican from Georgia, during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.” She expressed her support for victims of sexual abuse and trafficking, asserting, “I will not apologize for that.”

Greene emphasized the need for transparency and criticized the protection of wealthy individuals who may have committed wrongdoings. Although she admitted uncertainty about the contents of the files, she remarked that Trump’s reluctance has left many feeling “confused.”

“Why fight this so hard?” she questioned.

She also raised concerns about whether foreign nations like Israel might be using the Epstein files as leverage against the administration.

House Speaker Mike Johnson defended Trump, claiming his “hands are clean” and labeling Greene’s push for file release as a tactic to tarnish Trump’s reputation. “They’re doing this to go after President Trump on this theory that he has something to do with it — He does not,” Johnson stated on “Fox News Sunday.”

This controversy follows Trump’s announcement that he would withdraw his support for Greene and consider backing a primary challenger in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District. In a post on Truth Social, Trump referred to Greene as a “disgrace” to the Republican Party.

The split is notable given Greene’s previous role as one of Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress and her prominence within the Make America Great Again movement. She has consistently supported his claims regarding a stolen 2020 election and remained loyal even after January 6 events.

However, Greene believes that the party has strayed from its America First agenda, particularly concerning domestic issues while focusing excessively on foreign matters. She also disagrees with Trump’s assertion about economic prosperity, stating her constituents are struggling with rising costs.

In response to Trump’s comments about her complaints regarding various issues, including health care costs and inflation, Greene labeled his statements as false. She argued that such rhetoric has led to threats against her safety and called for elected officials to temper their language.

Last year, Trump indicated openness toward releasing these files but later dismissed such efforts as hoaxes. The late Jeffrey Epstein was convicted of trafficking minors for sex, raising questions about potential high-profile clients linked to him.

The Justice Department recently concluded its investigation without finding any list implicating notable figures. Although Trump had past associations with Epstein in the 1990s, he has denied any wrongdoing amid ongoing speculation surrounding their relationship.
