Jodey Arrington announces retirement

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington has declared his intention to retire from Congress at the conclusion of his term in 2027, marking the end of a decade-long career on Capitol Hill.

In a video shared on social media, he expressed, “It has been the most profound privilege and the honor of a lifetime to be your voice in our nation’s capital,” addressing his constituents in West Texas.

The 53-year-old Republican highlighted several legislative successes during his time in office, including the restoration of cotton to the Farm Bill, securing a next-generation bomber for Dyess Air Force Base, and establishing the Ports-to-Plains federal highway.

Mr. Arrington, known for crafting President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” received an endorsement from Trump for re-election in 2026. He stated, “After much prayer and deliberation, I believe it’s time to pass the torch to the next citizen-legislator from the Food, Fuel, and Fiber Capital of the World.”

He emphasized that public service should be viewed as a lifelong commitment while noting that holding public office is merely a temporary role. “I want to ride into that big, beautiful West Texas sunset and live under the laws that I passed,” he remarked.

Post-retirement, he anticipates taking on new leadership challenges and spending quality time with his wife and three children. He aims to conclude his term by advocating for further fiscal reforms and intends to maintain focus on advancing the America First agenda while strengthening Republican representation.

His conservative district in Lubbock is expected to remain solidly Republican during next year’s midterm elections. “Representing the God-fearing, freedom-loving people of West Texas has been a labor of love and an honor of a lifetime — I will be forever grateful for their trust,” he concluded.
