Investigation Launched Against Democratic Lawmakers
Democratic legislators who encouraged military personnel to disregard illegal directives from President Trump are now under investigation by the FBI.
Senator Elissa Slotkin from Michigan took to social media to confirm the ongoing investigation.
Slotkin stated, The President directing the FBI to target us is exactly why we made this video in the first place. She accused Trump of weaponizing federal agencies against his critics and using legal harassment as a means of intimidation.
The former president expressed outrage over the video, where Democrats asserted that troops have a responsibility to disobey orders deemed “illegal.”
The lawmakers argue they were merely reiterating established codes of conduct, while the administration contends their actions were intended to undermine presidential authority and incite rebellion.
Trump suggested that these lawmakers could face severe penalties, even hinting at capital punishment during an appearance on The Brian Kilmeade Show.
The White House criticized the lawmakers for voicing concerns about Trump’s actions without citing specific illegal orders.
The lawmakers addressed military members in their video, stating, You can refuse illegal orders. You can refuse illegal orders. You can refuse illegal orders.
Bipartisan discussions have emerged regarding the legality of U.S. military operations against suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean and deploying National Guard troops domestically for crime control.
Representatives Jason Crow, Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, and Chrissy Houlahan confirmed they are subjects of the FBI investigation and noted that investigators reached out to congressional sergeants-at-arms.
The representatives declared, No amount of intimidation or harassment will ever stop us from doing our jobs and honoring the Constitution.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth mentioned he might reinstate Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona into active duty for his participation in the video.
The Defense Department reminded all service members of their legal obligation under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) to obey lawful orders, emphasizing that personal beliefs do not excuse disobedience of lawful commands.
It remains uncertain whether Senator Kelly is also a target in this FBI investigation.
The Democratic lawmakers remain resolute, labeling this probe as an intimidation tactic that will ultimately backfire. Slotkin emphasized that this issue transcends just a video: This is not the America I know…
