Barack Obama expresses sorrow over the loss of Rob and Michele Reiner
Former President Barack Obama shared his heartbreak on Monday upon learning that director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were discovered deceased in their Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
Authorities are currently looking into what appears to be a homicide at the Brentwood home of Mr. Reiner, who was known for balancing his successful Hollywood career with active campaigning for Democratic candidates.
“Rob’s contributions to film and television provided us with some of our most treasured stories,” Mr. Obama stated on X. “Yet behind all those narratives was a profound faith in the goodness of people and a lifelong dedication to translating that belief into action.”

Mr. Reiner initially gained fame as a sitcom actor before achieving significant success as the director behind beloved films such as “This is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride,” and “When Harry Met Sally…”

The Los Angeles police discovered the bodies when they responded to a call regarding a death investigation at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Sunday.
No suspects have been identified yet, nor has any theory about the incident been released; however, tributes have begun pouring in from notable figures including writer Stephen King and prominent Democrats like the Obamas.
“Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose,” Mr. Obama remarked. “They will be remembered for their values and the countless individuals they inspired. Our deepest condolences go out to everyone who loved them.”
Mr. Reiner was known for being an outspoken critic of former President Trump, particularly regarding Trump’s interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He actively supported Democratic candidates and engaged in various social causes.
Nancy Pelosi, former House Speaker from California, described the news as “devastating” while praising Mr. Reiner as “creative, funny, and beloved.” She added that he was an advocate for First Amendment rights and creative freedom.
Civically, he was a champion for the First Amendment and the creative rights of artists,” she posted on X. “And professionally, he was an iconic figure in film who made us laugh, cry, and think with the movies he created.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom commended Mr. Reiner for his empathy extending beyond filmmaking.
This empathy extended well beyond his films,” said Newsom via social media. “Rob was a passionate advocate for children’s rights — fighting against Big Tobacco, supporting marriage equality, and serving as a strong voice in early education initiatives.”
