Incident Overview

A man in New Zealand is facing charges of theft after allegedly swallowing a Faberge egg pendant inspired by James Bond, valued at approximately $19,000.

Authorities responded to a jewelry store in Auckland on Friday, where they apprehended the 32-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed. He is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Auckland police commander Grae Anderson stated that the suspect underwent a medical evaluation and is under continuous observation. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the individual due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the case, noting that as of now, the pendant has not been retrieved.

The pendant is one of only 50 produced and features 18-karat gold adorned with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires. It includes a golden octopus design as a tribute to the 1983 film “Octopussy,” according to information from Faberge.

This unique piece is valued at 33,585 New Zealand dollars, which translates to about $19,388.

The movie “Octopussy,” which is notable for being Roger Moore’s sixth appearance as Agent 007, centers around a Faberge egg and its replica along with a jewel smuggler character portrayed by Maud Adams.

In addition to the theft of the pendant, authorities allege that the suspect also stole an iPad from the same store on November 12.
