Joyride on a Canadian Bus
A man is facing charges after allegedly taking an unattended bus for a joyride in Hamilton, Ontario, this week. During the escapade, he picked up and dropped off passengers before being apprehended.
The bus driver had parked at a terminal around 9 p.m. Tuesday to take a break when the unidentified man boarded and drove away with passengers still on board.
As the suspect navigated through the Hamilton Mountain area, he made several stops to let passengers on and off. Notably, he even prevented one individual from boarding due to an expired pass.
According to Hamilton Police Service spokesperson Constable Trevor McKenna, the man deviated from the designated route, exploring side streets instead. At one point, a passenger had to provide directions.
Throughout the incident, approximately ten passengers were present on the bus. Remarkably, no damage was reported; Constable McKenna noted that “there was not a ding on the bus.” He described the situation as both comical and serious while expressing relief that no one was harmed.
The police tracked down the bus and successfully stopped it without incident, taking the suspect into custody.
The 36-year-old man, who is homeless, faces multiple charges including theft of property valued over 5,000 Canadian dollars, possession of stolen goods worth over 5,000 Canadian dollars, obstruction of police duties, and driving while prohibited.
