Madison Sheahan Steps Down from ICE

The second-in-command at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Madison Sheahan, has announced her resignation to pursue a congressional seat in Ohio.

In a video shared on Thursday, Sheahan declared her candidacy, presenting herself as a conservative aligned with Trump’s values, committed to safeguarding American jobs and principles.

Sheahan expressed gratitude for her role in the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts in her resignation letter.

Having been appointed as ICE’s deputy director last year during a heightened focus on immigration enforcement, she noted significant achievements under her leadership.

Sheahan is contesting the seat currently held by Democratic Representative Marcy Kaptur, who has been in office since 1983. Kaptur narrowly won against a Trump-supported challenger last year despite the district’s recent Republican leanings.

Kaptur’s district has consistently supported Trump in past elections. In her campaign announcement, Sheahan claimed that her tenure at ICE had resulted in more effective immigration control than Kaptur’s decades-long service.

A number of Republican candidates are vying for the GOP nomination while Kaptur remains unchallenged for the Democratic ticket.

The National Republican Congressional Committee expressed optimism about change in Northwest Ohio, criticizing Kaptur’s record. Conversely, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee defended Kaptur against what they termed a chaotic Republican primary.

A close associate of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Sheahan previously worked with Noem during her governorship of South Dakota. Noem praised Sheahan’s dedication to family and country and expressed confidence in her potential as a congresswoman.
