Umbrellas Not Allowed at the Rose Parade
As the 2026 New Year’s Rose Parade approaches, local authorities in Pasadena, California, have announced that umbrellas will not be permitted, even if rain falls during the event.
The city’s official account shared on social media that the decision aims to maintain clear views for all spectators. The post emphasized, “Rain is expected for this year’s Rose Parade. Umbrellas are not permitted along the parade route because they block the view for others. Rain jackets or ponchos are a great alternative so everyone can enjoy the show!”
The National Weather Service predicts rainfall of 1 to 3 inches in valley and coastal regions and 3 to 6 inches in mountainous areas from Wednesday through Saturday. A significant period of rainfall is anticipated from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 10 p.m. Thursday, coinciding with both the parade and the Rose Bowl college football game scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Pacific time.
Interestingly, there has been no recorded rain during the Rose Parade since 2006.
The parade, a cherished tradition since 1890, begins at 8 a.m. along Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena and stretches over 5.5 miles. It features an array of rose-covered floats, marching bands, and equestrian units.
This year’s event will showcase over 70 performers along the route, including floats representing both teams competing in the upcoming Rose Bowl.
This year’s matchup features the Alabama Crimson Tide against the Indiana Hoosiers in a highly anticipated College Football Playoff quarterfinal.
The victorious team will advance to face off in the semifinal Peach Bowl in Atlanta on January 9 against either Oregon or Texas Tech, who will compete in Thursday’s Orange Bowl.
