Incident at George Mason University

George Mason University has terminated an adjunct professor after he was found drinking alcohol with undergraduate students during a recent class session.

According to sources within the university, the unnamed professor permitted students in a 400-level political science course to bring alcoholic beverages for their end-of-semester presentations. The incident occurred last Thursday.

The sources did not confirm whether any of the participating students were underage.

Reports indicate that at least one student consumed enough alcohol to lose consciousness, prompting an emergency medical services response. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arrived at the campus around 6 p.m. on Thursday and confirmed that the student has since recovered and is doing well.

A spokesperson for George Mason University stated that “an adjunct lecturer was fired following a prompt investigation into a Thursday evening incident in his classroom that egregiously violated those policies and expectations.” The university is also reviewing the adjunct’s other courses to determine if there were additional violations.
