Summary:

  • A Georgia judge has dismissed the criminal case against President Trump regarding the 2020 election challenges.

  • This case, once viewed as one of the strongest against Trump, has now completely fallen apart following early plea deals.
  • This dismissal adds to Trump’s recent legal victories, including the resolution of federal cases and an appeal of his New York conviction.

A Georgia judge officially dismissed the criminal case against President Trump on Tuesday, representing another legal triumph for him as what was once seen as a robust prosecution crumbled entirely.

Judge Scott McAfee concluded the proceedings after newly appointed prosecutor Peter J. Skandalakis chose not to advance with charges related to Trump’s attempts to contest his 2020 election loss in Georgia.

“The political persecution of President Trump by disqualified DA Fani Willis is finally over,” stated Trump’s attorney, Steve Sadow. “This case should never have been initiated. A fair and impartial prosecutor has put an end to this lawfare.”

The unraveling of this case occurred after Fani Willis was disqualified due to her romantic involvement with lead investigator Nathan Wade, which raised financial conflict concerns and led to her removal by an appeals court in December.

Willis had previously secured a racketeering indictment against Trump and several co-defendants, with multiple early plea agreements suggesting that there was a strong foundation for the prosecution.

This dismissal follows Trump’s successful efforts in quashing two federal cases and appealing his New York conviction on 34 counts related to falsifying business records.
