Task Force’s Departure

The antisemitism task force associated with the Heritage Foundation has decided to separate from the organization temporarily. This decision comes as members express their discontent over President Kevin Roberts’ continued support for controversial figure Tucker Carlson, known for his anti-Israel sentiments.

In a letter released on Thursday, the four co-chairs of the National Task Force to Combat Antisemitism expressed their relief at recent developments, including the exposure of harmful ideologies linked to Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes. They emphasized the necessity of maintaining their independence moving forward.

The co-chairs acknowledged the Heritage Foundation’s role in launching this task force and thanked them for their resources and support since its inception. However, they indicated that it is crucial to continue their mission outside of the foundation for now.

The task force plans to broaden its scope by addressing rising antisemitism from right-wing groups, in addition to its previous efforts against pro-Hamas movements on the left. A conference titled “Exposing & Countering Extremism and Antisemitism on the Right” is scheduled for November 18, in collaboration with the Conference of Christian Presidents for Israel.

This split follows multiple resignations from members who disagreed with Roberts’ defense of Carlson after a controversial interview with Fuentes, who has been criticized for his antisemitic views. Notable organizations such as the Zionist Organization of America and Young Jewish Conservatives have withdrawn from the task force.

Despite facing calls to resign, Roberts stated during an all-staff meeting that he intends to stay in his position, asserting that he wants to rectify any issues caused by recent controversies surrounding his comments about Carlson.

Roberts later admitted that referring to critics as a “venomous coalition” was inappropriate but reiterated his commitment to addressing antisemitism regardless of personal relationships. He affirmed that both he and Heritage will continue this important work even when it involves challenging friends like Tucker Carlson.

The co-chairs concluded their letter by emphasizing their determination to maintain momentum in combating antisemitism while advocating for a conservative movement that upholds America’s Judeo-Christian values against divisive influences.
