AI Company Triumphs in Defense Technology Competition
An innovative artificial intelligence software company collaborating with the U.S. Air Force to train robots for fighter jet repairs has emerged victorious in a significant defense technology competition held in Washington, D.C.
The Brooklyn-based company, Evercoast, which specializes in advancements related to “physical AI,” was awarded first place at the “DataTribe Challenge Competition” during Cyber Innovation Day 2025. This event highlights the increasing investment and growth of startups focused on data science and sensor management.
Ben Nunez, co-founder and CEO of Evercoast, explained that the U.S. Air Force is enhancing robotic training by capturing human technicians performing repairs on F-16s. This data is then used to create simulations that enable robots to execute similar tasks.
The DataTribe Challenge has become a prominent annual event organized by DataTribe, a Maryland-based venture capital incubator known for supporting early-stage cybersecurity and data science startups.
The judges praised Evercoast for its contributions to AI and robotics, particularly its ability to provide simulations that enhance real-world accuracy. The company presented what it describes as a “training ground for physical AI,” which integrates various data sources to create realistic models.
Nunez expressed his gratitude for winning over the panel of venture capitalists and experts, stating that it validates their business pursuits. The victory also connects Evercoast with DataTribe’s network of Silicon Valley technologists and former intelligence community members.
This achievement grants Evercoast access to valuable resources, including $25,000 in cash prizes aimed at fostering innovation in cybersecurity and data science.
Nunez delivered a 25-minute presentation before an audience of investors, including DataTribe co-founders Bob Ackerman and Mike Janke. The judging panel featured notable figures from the AI and cybersecurity sectors who rigorously questioned finalists about their products’ viability.
Janke emphasized the importance of agile technologists compared to traditional government structures in driving technological advancements. He views companies like Evercoast as pivotal players in shaping future developments within AI and intelligence collection.
Evercoast focuses on managing large datasets through sensors. Their software captures real-world data using fewer perspectives while integrating information from various devices into a cohesive output—an impressive feat considering the diversity of sensors involved.
This recent win adds to Evercoast’s track record within an eight-year history of annual competitions hosted by DataTribe. Ackerman noted that these events foster community-building between investors and tech startups while showcasing emerging innovations.
