Federal Prosecutor Issues Election Security Warning
Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba has issued a strong warning to residents of New Jersey, emphasizing that her office will actively investigate and prosecute any crimes related to the upcoming election.
Ms. Habba stated that any attempts to intimidate or bribe voters, buy or sell votes, impersonate voters, or tamper with ballots will be met with swift action by federal authorities.
“It will do so regardless of who commits those crimes, and regardless of party or affiliation,” she declared late Monday.
The warning comes just before a pivotal gubernatorial race in the state. Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill is aiming to mobilize her base to secure victory against Republican Jack Ciattarelli, a businessman and former assemblyman who has been close in recent polls.
The election results in New Jersey, along with key contests in Virginia and New York City, are expected to provide insights into current political trends nearly one year into the second term of President Trump.
Ms. Habba’s remarks echo longstanding concerns about election integrity voiced by former President Trump, who claimed in 2020 that Democrats engaged in ballot stuffing and other fraudulent activities to sway the outcome.
Appointed as acting top federal prosecutor in New Jersey by Mr. Trump in March, Ms. Habba previously served as his legal representative in civil cases involving financial allegations against Trump and his business. Her tenure remains legally contested.
